One nice way to relieve back pain is to lay on your side. Have your legs bent about 90 degrees, with one leg on top of the other, and your knees almost even with your hips. Slowly raise your ankles toward the ceiling, then lower them. This is like priming an old fashioned hand pump. Notice how your back feels during this movement. Repeat several times.
Sitting at a desk all day can cause your low back to hurt. Check to see if your "sit bones" are evenly touching your chair. If you find one side is higher, fold a hand towel and place under that side. This will allow the contracted muscle to be supported, and the tightness will release. When the pelvis is balanced, the low back won't feel as tight.
